Modular block retaining walls are engineered systems composed of interlocking concrete units that can function either as gravity walls—relying on their own mass—or as MSE walls, which incorporate geosynthetic reinforcement to stabilize retained soil. These walls are dry-stacked without mortar, allowing for flexibility, drainage, and ease of installation across a range of site conditions. In gravity applications, stability is achieved through the weight and geometry of the blocks, while MSE designs use geogrid layers extending into the backfill to resist lateral earth pressures.
